“A all-inclusive community-based organization consisting of stakeholders from Branford who have a commitment to the well-being and healthy development of all Branford's children, birth-age 8.
MISSION STATEMENT. Branford Early Childhood Collaborative's (BECC) mission is to ensure that "All Branford children, birth through age eight years, are happy, healthy, safe and successful with a love of learning in school and in life."
BECC and their 50 partners come together to make informed, data-driven decisions with regards to early childhood needs in our community. We have a membership of over 350 individuals, an Executive Board of 16 community leaders, an Advisory Board of 20 experts in the areas of early childhood health, safety, early education.
BECC strives to promote excellence for all early childhood professions and works in partnership with existing networks to align ourselves with the Connecticut Early Childhood Framework, "Ready by 5 adn Fine by 9." We believe that families, schools and communities are partners in teh rearing and education of our children.
Branford Early Childhood Collaborative and our parnters have been working for three years to develop a Blueprint for Branfor which reflects the unique needs and characteristics of the children and families in Branofrd and creates a local framwork for collaboration and accountability in response to family needs across the domains of early care, early education, social, emotional and physicial health, safety and family support.
We inform our decisions with Results-Based Accountability (RBA) based on imporved outcomes. The stakeholders agree on common indicators, a way to measure performance and develop strategies to "move the needle."
We welcome any individual or oranization to join us in this important work. We currently have committees for Health and Happiness, Safety, and Education.
Every year, in April, we celebrate NAEYC's The Week of the Young Child and promote literacy activities throughout town with One Book One Town. In 2012 we distributed 800 books to children throughout Branford. In 2013 we will be distributing to Branford's kids over 1200 books, titled "Not A Box" by Antoinette Portis, in both English and Spanish.
On Saturday April 27th all children and families in Branford are invited to the Branford Green from Noon - 3pm to construct Branford Children's Box Town, a replica of our fine town made with cardboard boxes. This hands-on activity will be a fun event that embraces creativity and imagination, while promoting the important of literacy.
